Perhaps the root is not μητηρ ‘mother’ but μετρον ‘measure’.
I thought it had something to do with trendy wine bars and men wearing buckle shoes, but I could be wrong.
Definitely “measure”. The metrosexual is fastidious – precise – about his appearance. All lapels, hairs, etc. are carefully in their place; anything that appears to be in disarray is itself carefully arranged for that effect.
From my observations in the wild, the metrosexual is definitely not looking for a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad.
