curious about causality

Without trying, I can think of five webcomics authors who changed their pronouns long after they started posting: Dana Simpson (Ozy and Millie), Joey Alison Sayers (Thingpart and now Alley Oop), Allison Shabet (Deadwinter), Elli Stephens (Goblins), and now Maelyn Dean (Real Life).

Is there something in the ink?

LATER: add Jodie Troutman (Sporkman), Jackie Lesnick (Girly, Cutewendy), Daisy Finch McGuire (Gastrophobia), Jeanne Thornton (The Man Who Hates Fun); and, the other way, Nate Stevenson (Nimona).

That’s nothing. There’s a curse that makes webcomic authors suffer hand injuries from sharp objects. Examples:

    • Giant in the Playground, author of Order of the Stick, around 2012-09-17 (link) (link).
    • Jeph Jacques, author of Questionable Content, around 2012-10-31 (link) (link).
    • David Morgan-Mar, author of Irregular Webcomic, around 2020‑05‑27 (link).

I’ve seen at least one more, but these are the ones I can find now.

I once contrived somehow to jab an Xacto blade into the tip of my index finger; does that make me a cartoonist?
