Russian runes?

Backtracking a search that led to my runes, I found this page that seems to claim that the futhark descended from a Russian system based on segments selected from the wheel graph W6. One needn’t accept the claim to find the system at least a little bit interesting.

One Response to Russian runes?

  1. George says:

The claim that the futhark descended from a Russian system based on segments selected from the wheel graph W6 is not supported by mainstream scholarship on the subject of runic alphabets. The origin of the runic script is still debated among scholars, but the prevailing theory is that it evolved from one of the Old Italic alphabets, probably the Etruscan alphabet. There is no evidence to suggest that it is related to the W6 wheel graph or any other Russian system.
