When I registered my domain, about 1998, .nu was the cheapest registry. It’s now €30/year. Before renewal is due (March 28) I should move to a cheaper address. (Yeah, I said the same two years ago. This time around, I have more lead-time and more motivation.)
I’d prefer something shorter than antonsherwood.name; any suggestions? Naturally ogre.* is long gone.
I’d just get a .org or a .com. They’re likely to be price stable for a long time. A few minutes with whois will reveal some good candidates — IM me if you want a suggestion or two that I just found.
Some ideas so far:
I decided against tamfang because of the pronunciation problem. Most of the people to whom I’d mention it orally would pronounce it with the vowels of hat stand, and I can’t pronounce it that way without wincing. It’s an Elvish word, and ought to be pronounced as in (for example) German. But if I pronounce it that way, most anglophones will understand it as Tom Fong.
Now I wish I’d thought of tonwood.
