getting cosy with evil

I’ve just finished reading John Holbrook Vance’s novel Bad Ronald (1973), and it’s keeping me awake. I wonder how much of its creepiness is due to its being set in California rather than on the planet Cadwal, and how much to its being told from the murderer’s viewpoint.

Later I learn that Bad Ronald was made into a stinker of a tv movie. Oh well!

Later still — and another movie in French.

to paint the sky

Alexander Calder and Braniff Airways — a page about Calder’s airplane paintings. Here’s something I find odd:

Four Models were painted, but before two of the models could be finished, Alexander Calder died in 1976. Out of respect to the artist, a scheme was never applied to any Braniff aircraft, only models shown above.

If I were the artist, I sure wouldn’t want my work wasted just because I died; that gives Death an unnecessary extra victory.

I heard once that Congress considered a ban on the use of film showing stunts in which a performer died — and representatives of the stuntmen’s union opposed it.
