I hope soon to buy a Macintosh, and copy my files (4.4 GB) from the present Linux box. Is it easy to do that with an Ethernet line?

I haven’t used one, but I understand the ethernet equivalent of a null modem is a crossover cable. Assuming both computers are connected to a router (ethernet or wireless) you can just use scp to copy the files.
I guess the next thing I need is a way to find out each box’s address …
I bought a crossover cable today, haven’t yet tried connecting it.
