If you’re using a home network router, some of them have built-in DNS servers. My LinkSys WRT54G does, although it’s not publicized. I point my first DNS entry to the router’s IP and away it goes.
In my case, since I’m running Linux, that’s a lot faster because the router’s DNS server quickly rejects the IPV6 attempts that Linux makes, cutting almost 10 seconds off of DNS resolution times.
