tartans in spaaace

Ken MacLeod, author of The Stone Canal &c, has a blog. (Thanks, Travis!)

But — oh dear . . .

It’s reminded me of the few times when I’ve felt the clammy suckers of capital’s covert-action tentacles on the back of my own neck.
[ . . . very big cut . . . ]
And that’s one reason why I’ll carry the SSP’s or even the CP’s red flag, even though I don’t agree with everything they stand for. It’s to keep the clammy suckers off my skin.

Of the three tentacles cited here, two belonged to the US Army and the CIA. Does someone as bright as Ken really suppose that a capitalist-free state would not have such organs?

permute(‘a’,’i’,’n’,’s’,’t’)

Of course you know InstaPundit, king of the bloggers; you may know that the title is parodied at (in?) isntapundit. I’ve long hoped that someone in Byzantium would launch Istanpundit; a watcher of all kinds of opposition could run AntisPundit. As for other anagrams, I see that ShortStrings (now Out Of The Loop) beat me to it.

a strange pitch

Ah, Blogger has a shiny new interface.

I’ve been getting a spam for ‘escorts’, which includes this line: “I love long walks on the beach, candlelight dinners . . . oh, and of course, experienced men with big cocks!” Seems to me that my so blessed brethren are not the most likely market; is it customary in advertising to say “Of course you’re probably not qualified”?

no title

Laurence Simon of Amish Tech Support, weary from the media attention brought on by his exposure of a scandal in Washington, returned briefly to his old form yesterday. Heh heh.
(2004 Oct 19: Those links have gone bad, but I have not given up tracking them down at another site.)

Hey, when will the folks behind Movable Type fix that bug that appends a useless #000000 to every permalink? (Or is that fix part of the paid version?) Luckily for you, your humble correspondent here goes that extra yard to strip out unnecessary fields from any links, probably saving you several Planck units of download time whenever you visit here. It’s just one way of saying thanks for helping to make me the world’s 8th 44th 42d 53d most famous “Sherwood”.

Here at Ogre Labs we care about every stray byte. Why, I remember the time – what? Oh.

2006: I’m now 34th.

SiO2 is only the main course

Take a close look at sand. Amazing variety! — What has that in common with the International Association of Fake Universities? I got both links from JWalk.

it is what it is

The Left Foot Living Review, by Andrew Plotkin, consists mostly of deadpan observations of life in an interesting time, or at least a time with interesting toys.
