Some channels will show any old rubbish.

Bon mot from Falkenblog:

It seems all great advice can be boiled down to one essential truth: Always—or is it never?—do X.

In 197_ Mom’s cousin Alyce married Tony, about whom pretty much all I remember is that he wrote a book on how to tell species of bats apart. After Alyce (already frail from polio) died of flu, we lost contact with Tony.

Today a random chain of thought led me to Tony’s obituary. Wow. (NSFW.)

Something’s wrong with commenting here, it seems.

Dad’s book is gorgeous. Buy a bazillion copies.

Chaos is good: Of beating hearts; sequel

Movies: I enjoyed Key Largo (1948).

Moving, one rediscovers many miscellaneous old papers. I think I copied this down from a comic skit about spies:

“Would you care to purchase a pair of mittens?” “It depends on the yarn.” “In Italy it is illegal to record the ring of a telephone.” “Which lasts longer, silk or rayon underwear?” “How do you say ‘tooth powder’ in Portuguese?” “Cats are nothing more than effeminate dogs.” “The fireplace has flown south for the winter.” “What do you say to a centipede on opening night? Break four or five legs.”

accumulated miscellany

cause for doubt

By the way, if I ever use the construction The X is just that, a X, slap me.

I found an unintentionally funny bit:

Do you remember the old adage about how power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely? Karl Marx didn’t.

Acton wrote that famous line four years after Marx died. – I always wondered what “corrupts absolutely” is supposed to mean.

The movie of Watchmen apparently changes Ozymandias’s costume from gold to greys. Whose stupid idea was that?

ogre don’t play that

On the off chance that lavender_princess44, who sent two anonymous texts to my telephone just now, has some genuine chain of acquaintance with me: No, I’m not going to make an account at the site you mentioned.
