{"id":809,"date":"2003-02-01T11:38:17","date_gmt":"2003-02-01T19:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ogre.nu\/wp\/?p=809"},"modified":"2009-07-09T10:24:27","modified_gmt":"2009-07-09T18:24:27","slug":"meet-madhu-kurup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bendwavy.org\/wp\/?p=809","title":{"rendered":"meet Madhu Kurup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thursday I had dinner with <a href=http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/mmk\/>Madhu Kurup<\/a> at Amarin, a Thai restaurant in Mountain View which neither of us had tried before; he didn&#8217;t comment on his, but my dish (spicy chicken with cashews) was quite satisfactory.<\/p>\n<p>If you read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/talkread.bml?journal=mmk&#038;itemid=15503\"> his flattery of me<\/a>, remember that it takes two to make lively conversation.<\/p>\n<p>I found his Livejournal (incidentally he looks nothing like the photograph) indirectly: my log shows hits from four &#8216;friends&#8217; pages which carried his report.  It&#8217;s a bit of a shock to dip into foreigners&#8217; informal writings in English but peppered with strange words; it makes me worry that my own writing might be made unnecessarily obscure by local jargon.  What is the right balance?  Does anyone whose English is weak read my site?<\/p>\n<p>I took Madhu&#8217;s suggestion to try <a href=http:\/\/labs.google.com\/sets>Google Sets<\/a> on my favorite music.
