{"id":206,"date":"2002-04-28T18:08:29","date_gmt":"2002-04-29T02:08:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ogre.nu\/wp\/?p=206"},"modified":"2004-10-20T08:18:06","modified_gmt":"2004-10-20T16:18:06","slug":"welcome-volokh-brothers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bendwavy.org\/wp\/?p=206","title":{"rendered":"welcome brothers Volokh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hey, a blog by a law professor.<br \/>\nI refer of course to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.ucla.edu\/faculty\/volokh\/\">Eugene Volokh<\/a>, who last week <a href=\"http:\/\/volokh.com\/\">hung up a joint shingle<\/a> with his brother <a href=\"http:\/\/kuznets.fas.harvard.edu\/~volokh\/\">Sasha<\/a>, a student at Harvard.  (Sasha recently made the news by organizing a <a href=\"http:\/\/kuznets.fas.harvard.edu\/~volokh\/guns.html\">gun club<\/a> there, and folks said hm, is he related to Eugene?  Now we know.)<br \/>\nI&#8217;ll be watching, just as if it did not already take me six weeks to cycle my &#8220;sites to watch&#8221; list.<\/p>\n<p>E.V.&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/volokh.com\/2002_04_21_volokh_archive.html#75902640\">remarks<\/a> on the &#8220;I don&#8217;t know any people like that&#8221; phenomenon remind me of something that happened to me.<br \/>\nOn a Sunday in 1996, as I blasted away at a defenseless paper target with my Ruger KP90D, a shell bounced off the wall and was caught behind my glasses, burning off a bit of skin.  Next day, of course, a coworker asked what happened; once word got around, another said &#8220;I didn&#8217;t know they scatter shells about&#8221;; another asked what caliber; and yet another said, &#8220;I&#8217;m thinking of trading in my rifle; what caliber do you think I should use for elk?&#8221; &#8212;<br \/>\nFive years later, getting ready for a trip to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frontsight.com\/FirearmsTraining\/Courses.asp?Action=View&#038;ID=52\"> Front Sight<\/a>, it was the elk guy that I asked to sign for my good moral character.<\/p>\n<p>And of course E.V. says exactly the right thing about <a href=\"http:\/\/volokh.com\/2002_04_21_volokh_archive.html#75867650\">nail-clippers on airplanes<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey, a blog by a law professor.
